Live Music from Drew Marler from 8-11pm on the patio! Drew is a talented singer and songwriter who Drew Marler grew up in Opelika/Auburn, Alabama listening and playing music in a musically enthusiastic family, with his mother a pianist and father a writer and professional storyteller. He played his first show at a honky tonk truck stop at age 15, and began playing live shows regularly with his twin brother, under The Bros. Marler. The twins took different directions after high school. Drew, developed a strong solo singer songwriter style and continued to play throughout the southeast, while in college. “ Drew Marler’s musical style is a homogeneous mixture of the solo troubadour styles of Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, the power of Nirvana and Janes Addiction, the soul of Al Green and Marvin Gaye, but it is always deeply rooted in folk, blues and country roots heritage.” ( Washington, Ga. newpaper ) In 1997, The Bros. Marler reunited and moved to Athens Georgia. During their time together, The Bros. Marler shared the stage with a multitude of talent including, The Jerry Garcia Band, Dave Schools of Widespread Panic, Bloodkin, Michael Guthrie, Ken Will Morton, Drive by Truckers, and many other great musicians. Drew released his first debut CD with The Bros. Marler, in summer of 2007, and since then have been represented at the Cannes film festival by Canadian/American records. Their music has been accepted and featured enthusiastically on numerous radio stations throughout the country. They have also been featured on several European stations in France, Belgium, Germany, Finland, Spain, and Italy, and are part of several compilation CD’s that have been submitted to radio stations throughout the world. “Songs For Pluto”, explores the depth of the Bros. Marlers’ songwriting, featuring a multitude of styles and harmonies blended with a roots heritage that is made its own. The CD, “ fringes on country and Americana, but with more quirk than either. The Bros. have their own style.”, which “succeeds quietly, with understatement, and subtlety.”(Flagpole Mag) “Songs For Pluto”, “ displays poise and impressive versatility, sharing time on lead and rhythm guitar, stripped-down drums, piano, harmonica and bass…this approach combined with the boy’s soul inspired, almost Dylanesque, double vocal stylings create an entertaining album rich in character and style.” (Performer Mag) “ The Bros. Marler has knocked the dust off of sounds old and new, just as Songs for Pluto will surely knock more dust off of your stereo.”(Hittin the Note Mag). Regarding their live show, “They could be mistaken for a blues band or a classic rock band or an alternative rock band or a folk band, but really the brothers can play anything well… They put on a great show that I would recommend to anyone.” ( Corner News) While in China on a teaching job, Daniel passed away and the Bros. Marler were shattered. After touring the east coast in 2013, playing 28 shows in a month and a half, Drew and his wife Shannon, a music therapist and drummer moved to Charleston, SC. Since then, Drew has stayed busy with his solo career, playing extensively throughout Charleston and surrounding areas. With an extensive catalog of cover music, and cleverly crafted original tunes, he has an array of music for any occasion. His personable stage presence and professional approach show years of experience, and a mass of talent that make him a favorite entertainer in the region. Drew’s set list is a blend of an older and younger generation of music; such as: Neil Young, Ryan Adams, Boy and Bear, Dave Matthews, Johnny Cash, Wilco, Rolling Stones, Beatles, The Killers, Bob Marley, Grateful Dead, Ray La Montange, The Black Crowes, Led Zepplin, Tom Petty, Hendrix, Ryan Adams, Van Morrison, Allman Bros. and many more.
